Term 3 CAPS Framework: Social Responsibility. A colourful, learner-friendly study hub about caring for animals, caring for people, nation-building, cultural heritage, gender stereotyping, sexism and abuse.
In Term 3, Grade 6 learners focus on social responsibility. Learners explore how to show care, respect and responsibility towards animals, other people and South African society.
Caring for animals means treating animals with kindness, respect and responsibility. Animals need food, clean water, shelter, safety and proper care. Learners should understand that animals can suffer when people neglect, harm or misuse them.
Name three basic needs of animals and explain why each one is important.
Caring for people means noticing that others have feelings, needs, opinions and challenges. People do not always think or feel the same way. Social responsibility means considering others before we speak or act.
Why is it important to consider another person’s needs and views before making a decision?
Learners should be able to communicate their own views and needs clearly without hurting others. Good communication helps people solve problems and build healthy relationships.
Nation-building means working together to create a united, peaceful and respectful country. Cultural heritage includes the traditions, languages, stories, food, music, clothing, places and values that people inherit from the past and pass on to the future.
National symbols and national days help South Africans remember important values, events and people. They can build pride, respect and unity when people understand their meaning.
Choose one national day and explain how it can help build unity in South Africa.
This topic helps learners understand unfair treatment linked to gender. Learners should know the meaning of gender stereotyping, sexism and abuse, and understand how these can harm personal and social relationships.
Throughout Term 3, learners practise reading with understanding and fluency. They read about animal care, acts of kindness, nation-building, cultural heritage, and ways to deal with stereotyping, sexism and abuse.
Term 3 includes a project. The project should help learners apply what they have learned about social responsibility. Learners may collect information, organise ideas, answer questions, create a poster or write a short report depending on the teacher’s instructions.
Write three sentences explaining what your project taught you about being socially responsible.
Each concept can later be linked to detailed notes, interactive worksheets, immediate marking and complete learner feedback.
